Statement of intent

"Poetry does not seek followers, it seeks lovers".

Federico Garcia Lorca

Clessidra Poetica is a group of friends who love poetry operating in Vicenza.

Its peculiar activity consists in poetic exercise, meaning by exercise the reading - first of all - of established poets and the writing of their own texts.

In the activity of the group, reading and writing intersect, giving life to a web of conceptual and expressive relationships, fruitful for the spirit and aimed at acquiring a linguistic balance.

In fact, in the Clessidra meetings, each participant is free to propose the reading and comment of authors he likes and to submit his compositions to others, exposing himself to the public approach of his own verses, dismissed through the voice and entrusted to the world - albeit limited - of one's own group.

Clessidra Poetica aims to spread the interest and love for Poetry, believing in the salvific value of the word and in particular of an art form which was once attributed a prevailing value compared to the other arts.

In the contemporary cultural world - on the other hand - although poets continue to be many - poetry is almost unheard, having a limited readership and correspondingly an often suffering publishing market.

Despite this, Poetry is alive, Poetry is there and - above all - people need it.

People need lyrical, intimate poetry - which opens a shareable gaze on the shattered feelings of the liquid world in which we live, but they also need civil poetry, which urges us to lift our heads from cynical or resigned indifference to the tragic footprint of many momentous events of our time.

People also need ironic poetry - nonsense - poetry that becomes theater between the soul and the metaphysical - and yes, people need - again - love poetry.

Aware of this invisible but concrete need, the Clessidra Poetica group remains open to anyone who wants to enter the attention of poetry, that is to say in that exercise of reading and writing mentioned at the beginning - or to those who have already experienced paths of this kind. Clessidra is also available for meetings and collaborations with other poetry groups or cultural circles that share its inspiring guidelines.

Among the concrete activities of CP there are: reading and study of great authors, language and versification games, reading both restricted to the group and public, publications of collective syllogs, celebration of the World Poetry Day, both with participation in the great initiative of the Vicenza Poetry, which for many years annually hosts illustrious names of the international poetic scene in our city, both with the organization of small events from time to time planned and open to citizens.

“Whatever the inspiration is, it was born from the constant recurrence of the phrase 'I don't know'.

Wisława Szymborska

The hourglass

Not of water but of honey will be the last

hourglass drop. We will see it

shine and sink into darkness,

but it will contain the joys that Someone

o Something poured out to the red Adam:

mutual love and your perfume,

the act of making sense of the universe,

even if fallaciously, that instant

in which Virgil imagines a hexameter,

the snow that descends lightly, the water

of thirst and the bread of hunger,

feel the book we are looking for

in the great confusion of the shelves,

the taste of the sword in the fight,

the open sea that plowed England,

the comfort of hearing the longings

notes after silence, an enchanting

I remember now faded, tiredness,

the moment when sleep dissolves us.

JL Borges
